SHAUN REDHEAD RACING IN EUROPE | 29th May 2009
Loose Kid and Yamaha Junior Development star, Shaun Redhead is right in the middle of a month long racing trip in Europe. Based with
Gebben Motoren,Holland's biggest Yamaha dealer and racing in Holland, Belgium and Germany, Redhead has already impressing many
with his speed and never say die attitude on the track. We asked Shaun if he could let us know exactly what he has been up to since
landing in Europe.
"I got off the plane and we pretty much swung by the bike shop, grabbed a 125 and went straight to a local track. Emile Gebben assists
me when I am here and he has been a great help and I can't thank him enough for his support. So, I jumped on a 125 and spun a few laps
just to loosen up and get used to the sand. And there is plenty of sand. Every track that I have been to has been really sandy and that’s cool
with me as I love riding sand and it reminds me of when I first started racing back in Western Australia.
In the next day or so, Yamaha supplied me with a new YZ250F and we spent a day or so testing before i did a race at Heerde, which was
where the World Junior Titles were held last year. I holeshot the first race and battled with the rider who finished second at the worlds
last year before I crashed and winded myself a bit. I didn't finish that one, but it was good to know I had good speed. Emile told me to
calm down as it was only my first few days, so I cruised in the second moto and came fourth. We also went to a couple of amusement parks
and did a couple of tourist things, which was cool, but I am here to ride, so we made up a plan for the remainder of my time with some
testing, some coaching and a few more races. I went do another local race where I went 3-1 to win the overall. It was an open class race
so i was against guys on 450s. The roost in the sand from those things just sand blasted me. I have also got races lined up in Belgium and
Germany and i will tell you about them next time. I am having a great time and think my speed and fitness is getting better. We have worked
on carrying more corner speed and using less clutch and I also have to race two 30 minute motos in the sand, so i better start training...
I get back to Australia in early June and then go straight up to Emerald to do the second round of the Queensland Championships.
Until next time - SR1
